It is but obvious that under the leadership of America’s first African- American President Barack Obama, the US course of action towards Africa is bound to have some bright changes. His foreign policies have so far differed in many ways than one from his fore runner. But his policies towards Africa seem considerably less extensive.
George Bush, otherwise detested by most of the world, is popular with the Africans. The US development aid towards Africa was increased during his reign. He made tremendous contribution in the treatment of AIDS and HIV by reauthorizing PEPFAR. Obama decided to let the policy work as it is with only a newly appointed boss for PEPFAR.
He has strong opinions regarding the Sudanese region of Darfur, one of the goriest conflicts of Africa. A threat has been given to the Sudanese government to stop bloodshed in the region. Obama is expected to be careful in Somalia. Bush had absolute support for Ethiopia when it occupied Somalia. But Obama will be alert with his support for Ethiopia. Though he has direct family ties with Kenya, he is still unlikely to get involved deeply in case the government collapses and violence returns.
